Dragon

A little something I made in my ceramics class. ^^

I need to stop this scale thing. I spend way too much time on them. @_@
BUT IT'S SO FUN. My name is Zepher, and I've got an addiction for tiny, detailed, scale work on my dragon sculptures.

The wings gave me a bit of grief (they would occasionally fall off if I moistened the clay too much.) Considering that though, the only issue after firing is a tiny crack at the base of one wing (the wing that gave me the most issues) but the glaze should sufficient in keeping it together as long as it's not thrown out the window or something.

By the way, the rock it's sitting on is hollow.

I had no idea how the glazes would turn out after being fired. I kinda just put 5 different things on it and said, "Wonder what it'll look like! 8D" I like how the red on the body turned out though. The scales were all painted with the same glaze. The thicker the glaze went on, the redder those parts turned out. Thinner glazed parts turned out gray. Of course the glaze filled in the spaces between the scales the most, so it was thickest there, while being somewhat thin on the scale edges. I'm kinda glad it turned out like that, brings out the texture! (I was a little worried because the glaze appeared to blur much of the scale texture when I painted it on!) Opening a kiln is like Christmas or Halloween. You never know what you are going to get, sometimes it's fantastic, other times it's just plain scary, lol.
